About Us

We are both "Baptist" and "Reformed".  Baptist means that we believe that the Holy Scriptures (the Bible) teach us that only believers are to be baptized.  Believers are people who have been given spiritual life, or born again, by the Spirit of God.  This same Spirit has given the believer faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Second Person of the Being of God.  This faith is a trusting only in the sinless life of Jesus and His death on the Cross to provide forgiveness of sins and make people right with God.  The Holy Spirit also causes the believer to turn from living for sin and for himself and to follow Jesus.  The believer is a person who is able to give a believable statement of his or her faith in Christ.

Reformed means that we understand the central truths, or doctrines, of the Bible in a systematic way that reveals the sovereignty of God in all things.  These central truths were used by men during the Reformation to expose the false teachings, or heresies, of the Roman Catholic Church, which had abandoned and corrupted the Biblical truth about God and the Bible and the relation of people to God.  These reformers, such as Wycliffe, Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, John Owen, and many others, worked and suffered persecution for more than 200 years (1400s - 1700s) in order to preach and teach and practice the truth of the Bible.  During this period of time, many of the reformers wrote detailed statements of what they believed, or confessions of faith.  One of these confessions was The London Baptist Confession of 1689. We believe this confession of faith is the best summary of our understanding of the major truths of the Bible.  It is what we believe, preach, and teach (see the "What We Believe" page).

We became a Reformed Baptist Church on April 4, 2007.  We had previously existed as a Southern Baptist Church for almost sixty years.  So, in a very real sense, we are a brand new Church.  We are currently quite small.  Our average attendance in our English language Worship Service is 25 to 30. Average attendance in our Spanish language Worship Service is 10 to 15.

We are people whom God has saved by His grace.   We are very serious about the truth of the Word of God.  Our Worship Services are not designed to entertain or excite people emotionally.  We strive to honor God through meaningful praise in song, in reverent prayer,  by the reading of Scripture, and by giving the preaching of the Word of God the primary place in worship.

We also strive to love God more than anything, love each other as Christ loved us, and love our neighbor as ourselves.  Although we constantly fail to be perfect in our strivings to love, we continually beg God to produce this kind of love in us.  We know that all of our religion is empty and useless without such love.

We urgently and earnestly desire God to make us His instruments and enable us to take the message of His saving grace to as many people as possible in as many neighborhoods and cities and nations as possible.  We pray that Christ will live in us in great life-changing power and love and beauty and, by His Light, make us the light of the world.

We associate closely with other Reformed Baptist Churches and are encouraged and strengthened by them and seek to encourage and strengthen them.  We were formerly received into membership in the Southern California Association of Reformed Baptist Churches on Reformation Sunday, October 28, 2007.  We were formerly received into membership in the Association of Reformed Baptist Churches of America (ARBCA), in April 2008.
